Brian O'Sullivan is returning from a trip to Malta and Sicily. When he arrives in Amsterdam, Nina picks him up, and they head to their Interpol office in The Hague. They are greeted by their supervisor, Pieter Van Deusen, and associate Erick Schmidt. Pieter shares that the CIA has asked the team to participate in a search to solve a lingering WWII mystery. Hermann Göring found himself losing Hitler’s confidence as commander of the Luftwaffe in the summer of 1944 and decided to use a Junker-290 airplane, capable of reaching South America, to hide his most valuable art and his store of gold. On the way, the plane ran into engine problems and crash landed.
New satellite radar technology in 2011 and 2012 identified caves in the hills on GCI. The oldest CIA members in DC remembered a lingering rumor that there was gold hidden somewhere in CGI’s caves. A Russian agent embedded in Langley sends the info to Moscow. In turn, a group of cadets from a military school in Belarus are sent to GCI to hunt for the gold. The CIA asks Interpol if their Art Research and Recovery unit can help in the investigation.
Can Nina solve the mystery? Do the sinister Russians win the race? Can Brian resolve his swirling emotions? Will Brian and Nina’s relationship be strengthened after startling revelations, or does stress bring it to a crashing end?
